How to care for your crowning glory! 👑

April 26 2023 by: Jo M

Ok, fair enough, it’s a tedious link BUT, here at Naturtint UK we think it’s always important to look after your locks and even more so with summer just around the corner, so we’ve put together a handy guide to keeping your tresses in tip top condition.

HYDRATE, HYDRATE, HYDRATE 💧

Whether you colour your hair or not, it’s important to keep your locks hydrated – particularly as we head into the warmer months (and maybe even a summer holiday if you’re lucky!) when hair becomes even more susceptible to dehydration. Drinking plenty of water is as good for your hair as it is your skin and your overall wellbeing, but it’s also good to treat your hair to a super-intensive moisture treatment every so often, to keep your hair hydrated, silky smooth and with a healthy shine. Dehydrated hair can not only look dull and feel coarse, but it is much more susceptible to split ends, colour fading and breakages.

The Hair Food Purple Rice Mask is ideal for dry and parched hair, or if you have curly hair, take a look at our Curl Definer Hair Mask.

Hydration hero's!

TRIM & PROPER 💇‍♀️

Regular trims are as important as conditioning treatments when it comes to preventing split ends – even the smallest of trims can (literally!) nip split ends in the bud, which in turn makes styling easier, your hair look glossier and healthier, and also gives a more even colour result when you do come to apply your colour.

If you are worried about split ends, the Curl Definer Oil Repair contains Organic Jojoba and Argan Oils that help repair the hair fibre and reduce tangles and knots.

PREPARATION IS KEY 🔑

If like many of us you like to go lighter with your colour in Summer, think ahead to how you are going to achieve that and when you want to be lighter by – if you are already colouring your hair it will take a good few applications of a lighter shade before you see a real difference and you may need to do it in stages. Bear in mind too, that unless you are happy to use a very strong, salon-based product you can only lighten your natural colour by two shades – trying to go above this is likely to result in unwanted brassy tones.

Check out our ‘Find Your Shade’ page for help determining how light you can go, or if you’re naturally fair already and just want to go a little lighter for summer, have a try of the Naturtint Chamomile range – perfect for enhancing natural highlights!

THE RIGHT TOOLS FOR THE JOB 🧴

Consider whether you are using the right cleansing and styling products for your hair type – what you’ve been using for years and years may no longer be giving your hair the right type of care. As we age and particularly when we go through the menopause, our hair texture and consistency can change. Likewise if you switch up the colour or start colouring for the first time, you’ll likely benefit from changing your shampoo and conditioner too.
